Bottega Louie
About this place
Bottega Louie opened on April 6, 2009, on the ground floor of the Brockman Building in downtown Los Angeles at 700 S Grand Avenue. The restaurant describes itself as three things at once: an Italian restaurant, a gourmet market and a French patisserie, and it fits all of that into one tall room with marble surfaces and Rococo touches added to the Beaux Arts building.
Start at the pastry case
As you walk in you pass a colorful display of macarons, cakes and other desserts. The macarons are the signature, in dozens of flavors including Earl Grey, sold individually or in boxes. If you are in a hurry, you can leave with a box without sitting down.
The restaurant menu
For a full meal, the menu runs through salads, pizzas, pastas, small plates, sides and entrées such as scallops, a 15-ounce ribeye and Scottish salmon. The kitchen is open, with three visible stations where chefs and baristas work behind glass, stretching pizza dough, plating dishes and mixing drinks.
Timing a visit
The restaurant opens early, so you can start with coffee and a croissant, and it stays open late for dinner.
